How you make the difference

Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are a hot topic in the electricity industry. As Intern – System Integration Tool you will be assisting us in developing tools to size BESS and provide insights into how to best exploit the BESS in the various electricity (Day Ahead, Intraday, Passive Imbalance, Congestion) and balancing (aFRR, FCR, mFRR) markets. Our system integration tool, developed for this purpose, is currently being expanded. An important step is to introduce forecasts of the prices in the various markets mentioned, instead of using historic data as is currently being done (to avoid overestimation of the BESS potential). The assignment is to develop machine learning algorithms which are trained to predict the prices in the various markets, starting with the DA and Passive Imbalance markets. Besides developing an algorithm, this includes researching the most efficient method, analysing what training data is necessary and what data is not, determining the accuracy of the results, researching if the model is not overtrained and if it is future-proof, and researching future improvements.

• a compensation of 550 euros gross per month based on 40 hours;

What are your assets?

• Technical Masters studies (f.e. Computer Science, Sustainable Energy Technology, (Applied) Physics, (Applied) Mathematics)
• Affinity working with Python
